Research Interests 

My preferred style of research is qualitative (ethnographic) research, I find that some phenomenons are better explain through the voices of society rather than a bubble on a survey. My research interests include cultural diversity, gender, family, and victimized populations. 

Education​
Tennessee Technological University. B.S. in Sociology with a concentration in Social Work

During my time at Tennessee Technological University, I devoted myself to working hard, thinking critically, and learning as much as I possibly could in my field. I was involved it six different academic organizations, and I tutored for the department of sociology. While, in my sophomore year I became a teaching assistant for the upper division course cross communication and cultural diversity. In my junior year I was honored to traveled to the Southern Sociological Society conference to present my independent research on the decreasing reliance of Graduate Record Examinations.

Field Experience​
Victim Services Intern. Cookeville Police Department

Dec. 2018 - Apr. 2019​

 

As an intern for Victim Services of the Cookeville Police Department, I assist in connecting victims of crime with services under the VOCA grant. Typical services that we might link victims to are: shelter, safety planing, victims compensation, monetary assistants, food assistants, housing assistants, orders of protection, etc. (For more details on this Internship please see my "artifacts" and "reflection" pages.)

For one semester I tutored for the department of Sociology and Political Science. During this time I offered services for the following classes: 

American Government, American History II, Art Appreciation, Case Management, Cross Cult Communications and Cultural Diversity, Field Research Methods, General Psychology, Intro to Social Work, Intro to Sociological Research, Intro to Sociology, Intro to Speech Communications, Intro to Theater, Marriage and Family Relations, Probation and Parole, Social Problems, Sociological Theory, Topics in American Literature, Victimology, Writing I, and Writing II.

Spring 2017

 

During the spring of 2017, I was offered a student teaching assistant position for the course Cross Communications and Cultural Diversity. As a part of the course I helped train and oversee students in becoming cultural liaisons for the Windows on the World festival (a local festival drawing in over 10,000 visitors every year to learn about cultures all over the world). Additionally, I assisted in engaging students in a verity of critical thinking lessons, each focused on teaching a different aspect of diversity through real world application.

Office Assistant and Supervisor. Tennessee Technological University Campus Recreation.

​2015 - Present

As an Office Assistant for Campus Reaction I preform several duties such as: membership sales and payments, application processing, locker rentals, document formatting, writing and updating manuals, scheduling, emailing, phone calls, and other receptionist duties. Additionally in the position I act as the Assistant Cheer Camp Coordinator.

As a Supervisor I over see the daily functions of the Fitness Center portion of Campus Recreation, ensuring that each shift runs smoothing. My duties include: Insuring all employees follow procedure, training new employees, event set ups, and responding to accidents.

My position here required me to take part in basic office duties such as filling, mailing, paperwork, and phone calls. Additionally I assisted in ad writing, marketing, and photography.

White, Isn't a Right (We haven't changed), is a poem about the never ending struggle of racism in American society today.

Simply Young was a selection of student poets gathered from the Treehouse Poets of Tennessee Technological University, published throughout the University.
